A big congratulations to Jen Wright > friend and photographer!

souther california child photographer

I just wanted to shout out to my good friend, Jen Wright. She graduated from the Brooks Institute (Photography) this past weekend and I am so proud of her! She moved across the country from Atlanta, Georgia, to attend Brooks in Santa Barbara. She has not decided where she is going to live and set up shop (CA or GA) but I know how much she loves southern California. Since she is already here, I am urging her to give California her best shot (pun intended) over the summer. Not only can Jen nail the technicalities of a portrait, but she connects with children very well… a bonus that came from many years working as a nanny! So, if you are in the San Diego, Orange County or Los Angeles area and needing portraits of your kiddos, check out her website: Jen Wright - *California* children’s photographer

A, I’m sorry your sneak peek is so late! Sadie has the most gorgeous head full of dark hair doesn’t she? What do you suppose the finger means in the last image? “That’s a long ways down!”, “Be sure to clone out that bean bag!”, or “Rock on!”. I vote for the latter!  © carrie sandoval | los angeles baby photographer

Newborn baby model call - June and August.

newborn photography workshop baby posing for photographers

My most important job in planning the Baby as Art Workshops is finding our little models. I’ll admit, I started to get a little bit nervous two weeks before the May workshop as I waited for babies to be born. We ended up with 5 beautiful models, as you can see below! The June workshop is right around the corner and I am hoping this full moon will kick start labor for my June models! If there are any Mama’s interested in providing back up models for June, email me for details. And while I have your attention, I am also looking for models that will be less than 2 weeks old in early August. Of course, babies are unpredictable, so if you are due mid July - mid August, email me, for details.  © carrie sandoval | baby

Six weeks to plump up.

As much as I love the sweet, sleepy, moldable, just-days-old baby… a baby (or two!) that has been on a high calorie diet for six weeks is extremely pinch-able! To get to Tommy and Emily’s house, I gave Brittany her first ride over the Coronado bridge… always a nail biting start to a session, hehe! © carrie sandoval | twins

Who could ask for anything more?

Meet baby Naida. She was the first baby I have ever photographed who did not wake up to eat, fuss, pee or poop the entire session. And… she slept in the car the whole way from Chula Vista, to boot! She woke up at the very end, though… and she was rightfully very hungry. Thank you, Naida, for being such a fantastic model! More, bigger on the baby as art blog!  © carrie sandoval

Baby as Art baby-palooza!

baby as art newborn workshop

The first Baby as Art workshop is under our belts and I must say… we had a total blast! We got to meet a wonderful group of ladies from Canada to Puerto Rico as well as welcoming four brand new babies into the world. Our first mini model pictured above is 8 day old sweet Sienna from Long Beach, California.

This beautiful head of hair belongs to our second model, little Lucy, from… get this… Salt Lake City, Utah! Beings her and her Mama came so far, I knew she would be up for an outdoor adventure. Thanks, Mama!

On the flip side just-7-days-old Jonah came from around the corner. Thanks to his parents, for coming both days!

This session came as a pleasant surprise. Friend and fellow photographer, Deb Schwedhelm, photographed Xavier’s gorgeous parents before he was born. Deb ended up having a very exciting week and she was so gracious to share this gorgeous family with me. At any rate, meet Xavier. He’s 5 days old here. (T+J - I have a special, unexpected surprise for you in your gallery. Coming soon!) © carrie sandoval | baby

Ha! I told Brody’s parents that I was going to blog this image just seconds after I took it. Isn’t that smile contagious? Come on… I know you are smiling! I think the second image compliments it perfectly; awake vs. asleep, dark vs. light, left vs. right, color vs. black and white. Welcome to the world little man! © carrie sandoval | baby
